The Correspondence and General Files document all major activities, academic or social, research or publishing, in which Benjamin F. Miller was engaged in various periods of his fruitful career. This series also includes one file of correspondence which Judith W. Miller handled after her husband's death. The Research and Teaching Files include such major subseries as heart diseases, kidney transplantation, lecture files, annual reports and correspondence of the May Institute for Medical Research, research projects Miller advised on at the May Institute, and some teaching files. The Writing Projects, Manuscripts, Publications series includes all major writing and publishing projects Miller finished or planned to undertake. Included in this series are files related to an autobiography project, manuscripts and drafts in various stages of a number of major publications, approximately a dozen published works, and the preparatory material for the writing of a book specifically on sex. The Publishing Files include correspondence, agreements signed with publishers, and other relevant material related to publishing. Communications that continued with publishers, readers, and co-authors after Miller's death were done by his wife Judith Miller. The Personal Files comprise nine folders, including biographical data of Benjamin F. Miller, curriculum vitae, a diary from July to October of 1949, duplicates of Miller's licenses and certificates, photographs, and clippings of journals that either carried his poems or reminiscent articles of his life. The Audio Tapes series include thirty-nine audio tapes which recorded lectures made by Miller and other researchers from 1957 to 1961. There is also a 16-mm movie film recording the wedding of Benjamin and Judith in 1961.

Benjamin F. Miller was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, in 1907. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1928 and from Harvard Medical School, M.D., in 1933. After interning at the Cornell Medical Center and the New York Hospital, he started a three-year National Research Council Fellowship in Medicine at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research in 1934.
